I think the idea that Beckham is only a publicity machine is a bunch of crap. The guy almost single-handedly rescued England when they played against Croatia. If it wasn't for the pathetic defensive partnership that McClaren had put together that day, they would have been sitting pretty in Euro 2008. The problem right now for LA is trying to fix their defense, which is one of the poorest in the MLS.
