Default NBA LIVE - Boston Beat Knicks, 110-100

The Boston Celtics were tired and their spirits down after they lost their match against the Los Angeles Lakers. They led through out the fourth quarter, early part of the overtime period but not after the match ended. They then had to travel to New York City immediately after the game to face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. And after witnessing two consecutive games that showcased the individual talents of the visiting teams in Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, what can the Celtics show the crowd at MSG? The answer? A win showing a team working cohesively and not of individual superiority.
The New York Knicks ended a difficult week that saw the team lose three consecutive games to playoff bound teams. To their credit though, the team did fight only to fade away as the game was about to end. With the game against the Celtics, it was Paul Pierce and Ray Allen who put up a show.
Pierce scored 26 points while Allen chipped in with 22 points and six assists before fouling out with three minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Celtics defeated the Knicks, 110-100 to end New York’s week of miserable basketball results after they had won their previous five games. Kevin Garnett added 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double performance and point guard Rajon Rondo had seven assists.
The Celtics rebounded from their loss to to the Lakers and have clinched the season series againts New York 3-1. It proved to be an important win as it improved their record to 42-10. The Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Celtics are all vying to be the top team in the regular season NBA results in order to secure home court advantage through out the playoffs.
Al Harrington scored 27 points and David Lee also registered a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Chris Duhon had 7 assists to pace the Knicks.
New York kept in step with Boston in the first quarter and led the game at half time 47-46. They then scored a total of 29 points to Boston’s 26 as they took the lead at the end of the third period 76-72. Allen then went to work and took over the scoring cudgels for the Celtics. New York’s Danilo Gallinari scored a three point basket for a 80-79 lead, Allen scored Boston’s next 11 points which included two three point shots and a driving lay up that finally gave Boston the lead 90-86.
Boston coach Doc Rivers recognized that Allen’s torrid shooting in the stretch was the key in the Celtics’ securing victory. Eddie House then took over the scoring as he buried a jumper from a Rondo steal and a three point shot from the baseline to extend the lead to nine with four minutes to go. Duhon then made a three point play for the Knicks but Garnett found Leon Powe under the basket open for a dunk as Garnett was double teamed. Pierce then added a long jumper from*within the free throw area*for a 99-89* lead with 3:11 remaining. The Knicks were able to score 11 points more afterwards but Pierce made two free throws with 28 seconds left that ended the Celtics’ 38 point fourth quarter scoring to clinch the win.
