You may not know it but I think many actually play this game and maybe some are rated players. I would like to see a forum devoted to this because I like this game a lot. Thanks you.

That might be interesting. Do you follow any particular player? I remember a few years ago the UK went chess mad after we had some good players, but nobody cares now.

I used to be graded, and play in local Opens, but I haven't played in a while - it was so expensive travelling to tournaments

I'm thinking of starting again - not tournaments - travelling is difficult considering where I live now. I might play online though - I wonder if there are any sites where you can play graded games.

You're right it's good exercise - who needs games like 'brain age' when you have chess

When I was younger, I used to like Bobby Fischer because he was so highly regarded when he was still active. We used to have a book of his complete games and that was what I used to read on.

I have participated in a few organized tournaments and I once had a rating, about 1800.

If you want to play online, these two sites are what I can recommend to you. You choose between a free and paid membership. Here they are:

Free Internet Chess Server ( FICS)
PlayChess.com

Either one of these is what I will visit when I want to play chess. Just google them and you will get the links to the sites.

Have fun.

Yes very good topics we have here...actually i've played this game during my early age but never practiced it because i'm not good at it but actually it's really good for your brain as chess can make both sides of your brain working at the same time..both imaginative and practical since human use only 20% of their brain to do the routine and it's still 80% going wasted.

I have read this somewhere before that says "Chess is the gymnasium of the mind." I agree with you saying that chess involves imaginative thinking while also not neglecting the practical side of it.

It also help you to plan your strategy not only in the game but it's reflect your every day's live. If you do a lot of readings or observations, most of successful people would put a set of chess in their office or at home. Maybe we should provide one and start mastering the skills. You will find it very beneficial to you.

I like chess too; it is intellectually very stimulating but perhaps too "brainy" and intellectual for this forum
