Blanton, A's agree to $3.7M, 1-year deal (AP)

Joe Blanton and the Oakland Athletics agreed Friday on a $3.7 million, one-year contract that avoided arbitration. Known for his speedy work on the mound, the right-hander went 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA in 34 starts for Oakland last year. He tied for the AL lead in starts, ranked second in innings (230) and tied for third in complete games with three.
