What are the statics on racers who are in accidents. How many have actually died and how often do these accidents really occur. Is there a way to prevent this from happening.

Fifteen drivers died in the 1950s; twelve in the 1960s; ten in the 1970s; four in the 1980s and two in the 1990s. Drivers from the united states of america have had the most fatal accidents with eleven drivers from that country having died.

Racing is a very dangerous sport and accidents can do happen. So, preventing it from ever occurring at all is next to impossible. We just got to accept it.

Don't forget racers who die during testing, instead of during races or qualifying - somtimes those deaths aren't as widely reported.
It is a dangerous sport, but regulations can be made tighter, and safety equipment improved. |

Most of the cars lower down the grid are unreliable and they are the ones that are involved in these accidents. There are incidents in virtually every race, but these days fatal accidents are rare. But I remember that two famous racers that died recently are Gilles Villeneuve and Ayrton Senna.

Thank you for the information. Glad to see that over time it has went down in deaths. But what was the cause of that, does anyone know? Is it is because they have lowered speeds or taken more safety precautions.
