Russia moved to within a step of winning a ticket to next year's Beijing Olympics as they powered past Puerto Rico in the men's World Cup yesterday.
The Russians coasted to a 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 victory for an eighth straight win in the 12-team round robin competition in which the top three finishers will qualify for the Olympics. In Tokyo, Russia will play against Bulgaria on Friday and Brazil will be on Saturday and one win over either of them will be enough to qualify for the Olympics.

Russains have always done well in their game. They have made it to the finals in most of the tournaments they have played well. The game of defencing is superb and no opponent can break that and penetrate their court.

Russia always fields strong teams. One thing they do take pride in is their sports. They select kids very early and basically put them in academies until they are ready to play internationally. We are just starting to do this, with the Olympic Sports Center only being about 20 some years old.
