Historic Moment For First Female Cricketer Of The Year
Claire Taylor was chosen as one of Wisden’s Cricketer of the Year, who is the very first female elected to such position in 120 years.
Taylor said, “I’m the first woman ever to be named so it’s really exciting. I was certainly surprised to hear that I had been selected and I’ve managed to keep it a secret from everyone, even my family. I’ll definitely make some early morning phone calls to make sure they all know.”
The 33-year old is England’s leading run scorer when they won the World Cup last month and also the 2008 Australian campaign and went on undefeated throughout the entire summer. Taylor, named 2008 Player of the World Cup, is currently team captain of the English team.
She is joined by England bowler James Anderson, Durham’s Dale Benkenstein and the South African pair Mark Boucher and Neil McKenzie in this exclusive list.
