Donte Stallworth Released From Jail
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth was released from a Miami, Florida jail on July 10th after serving 24 days for his DUI manslaughter charge. The Miami Herald newspaper reported that the suspended Stallworth was released from Miami-Dade jail just before 6am.
Stallworth was handed a 30-day sentence, which was then reduced to 24 days, after he pleaded guilty to the charge on June 16. He will now be placed on probation for 10 years. Two years of those will be served in house arrest. He has also been ordered to perform 1,000 hours of community service.
The punishment is due to an accident he had on March 14 when the American football player hit and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle. Stallworth’s blood alcohol level was .126, which is over Florida’s legal limit of .08.
He originally pleaded not guilty on June 4 and was facing a sentence of four to 15 years in prison if he was convicted on the charge.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell then suspended Stallworth indefinitely on July 1st.
Stallworth joined Cleveland in the 2008 season as a free agent. He caught a career-low 17 passes for 170 yards with only one touchdown in 11 games. He suffered from a quadriceps injury for most of the season.
