Michael Owen: Two For Two

Michael Owen scored again for Manchester United in a 2-0 win against a Malaysian XI side on July 20th.  Owen scored United’s second goal, in the 13th minute, just two minutes after Federico Macheda opened the scoring.

Because of the heat and humidity, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson started a different 11 than players than the ones who started first game between the two teams on July 18th.  In that game, Owen scored the winner in the 87th minute in a 3-2 win.

Owen, an England international, scored his second goal in two matches after the home defence couldn’t deal with a cross from United’s Zoran Tosic. The 29-year-old Owen was signed by Ferguson earlier this summer as a free agent after spending four seasons with Newcastle.

Manchester will continue their tour of the Far East and are scheduled to play FC Seoul on July 24th. The two goal scorers, Owen, and Macheda will be fighting for a striking spot in the squad after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. Macheda scored some important goals when he came off the bench at the end of last season and he’s still only 17 years old.
