Sweden Interested In Eriksson
Sweden has contacted Notts County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson as a possible manager for their national team. Eriksson is one of the leading candidates for the job after Lars Lagerback quit after Sweden missed out on making the 2010 World Cup finals. Lagerback was in charge of the team for the past nine years.
Eriksson has also been linked with managing North Korea job, but the Swedish Football Association confirmed they have talked with the Swedish native Erikkson as well as several other people. Jonas Nystedt, head of communications at the FA stated, “Last Thursday (Oct. 15), after the Albania game, the board had a meeting and discussed what route should be taken. Things that were discussed were, obviously, who it should possibly be, their education and career, reputation and location and things like that. There is a special list of five to ten names and Sven-Goran Eriksson is on that list.”
Erikkson, who has managed England, Mexico, and Manchester City is presently the director of football at Notts County where he signed a five-year contract this summer. However, Eriksson’s agent said he knew nothing about it and Eriksson is committed to Notts County.
Eriksson has also managed Degerfors and Gothenburg in Sweden as well as Benfica, Sampdoria, and Lazio, where he won the Serie A title.
