Italian Cyclist Banned 20 Years

Italian cyclist Gianni Da Ros was banned for 20 years on Nov. 22 for doping in one of the heaviest penalties ever handed down by the Italian Olympic Committee. Da Ros was arrested in March 2009 while training with the Italian national track cycling team in Padua, and was immediately banned by his Liquigas team.

Contador wins 2nd Tour de France title

Alberto Contador won the Tour de France Sunday. Contador is Lance Armstrong’s Astana teammate. The Tour de France took three weeks and 2,141 miles.  Contador won his second Tour de France title.

Lance Armstrong has found an American sponsor for Astana. Astana has been plagued by financial problems all year long. Armstrong is currently competing in the Tour de France.

Lance Armstrong Fined

Lance Armstrong failed to sign in before the third stage of the Tour de France on July 6th and will be fined as all cyclists are required to sign in before every stage. Tour competition director Jean-Francois Pescheux said the seven-time Tour de France winner would receive the standard fine, which is about $92 US.
